Every pregnancy is unique, and whether they are first-time expectant moms or
experienced mothers, most women have questions and concerns during pregnancy.
The SmartStarts program is an outstanding, comprehensive prenatal program,
focusing on educating expectant mothers and mentoring them through each
trimester of pregnancy. The program works in coordination with the services
provided by an expectant mother’s physician to decrease the incidence
of premature birth and low birth weight.
Each expectant mother is assigned to a personal prenatal nurse and may
call or e-mail the nurse whenever she has a question or concern. In addition,
the prenatal nurse makes scheduled outbound calls to check on the participant
at key times during her pregnancy and provides educational information
on a schedule that corresponds with the needs of each trimester—during
the timeframe when specific topics are most likely to be helpful. The
nurses provide education to help the expectant mother communicate more
effectively with her doctor’s office.
Expectant parents can visit the SmartStarts Web site for additional tips,
information, and links to free products and services.
